US President Joe Biden admitted that it was easier for him to speak with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Geneva summit, knowing about the support of Western countries.
The American leader said this on Wednesday, June 16, at a press conference following the meeting before flying to Washington.
“There was not a single person, a world leader, who did not thank me for organizing a meeting with Putin. This put me in a good position when I represented the West knowing that the rest of the West supports me, ”said the owner of the White House.
According to Biden, all the leaders of NATO member states thanked him for his plans to meet with Putin during the alliance summit held on June 14.
“Not one, but all the world leaders who were sitting at the table thanked me for the plans to meet with Putin,” the US President added.
On Monday, it was reported that Russia was one of the most important points in the speech of the President of the United States Joe Biden at the NATO summit.
Following the talks in Geneva, the leaders adopted a joint statement on strategic stability. The parties also agreed on the return of the ambassadors of the two countries and the continuation of consultations on the further fate of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START-3).
Commenting on the negotiations, Joe Biden noted that they were held in a kind and positive atmosphere , and also expressed the hope that the United States has created the foundation for further relations with Russia.
Vladimir Putin noted that the talks were held “in the same language . ”
According to him, politicians have expressed a desire to bring positions closer together . On the whole, the Russian leader assesses the past meeting positively .
The President said that during the summit, he and Biden discussed the topic of strategic stability, trade relations, regional security and cybersecurity.
