In preparation ahead of this year’s Ekiti FA Cup, the oldest football competition in the Country, one of the most popular team in Ikere, Ikere United FC gets sponsor.
His Excellency Surv. Abiodun Aluko, a former Deputy Governor in Ekiti State and an Ikere elder statesman has stepped in to sponsor Ikere United FC, throughout the tournament. He said he is “pleased to identify with the unity and unification of Ikere and her youth always”.
He made this known in a meeting, at his private office in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, with the Chairman of Ikere LFC, Mr. Adeolu Oyebode.
The former Deputy Governor said that he is ready to identify with Ikere Local Football Council in all her organized competitions in a bid to build unity amongst youth in Ikere land through football.
Surv. Biodun Aluko said “we all speak football and being the rallying sport in the world, it (football) would be a good tool to reduce crime and promote peace irrespective of the town youthful deliquesce.
The Oluomo of Ikere also called on other prominent people in the community to show interest in sporting activities so as to lift the name of the town higher across the State and the country at large.
Ikere Local Football Council boss Mr. Adeolu Oyebode appreciated the ex-Deputy Governor for his promises and also gave him assurance that the team would not be a disappoinment to the community throughout and after the tournament.
Also, the community club as also appointed a NIS-certified Caoch, Mr. Bolarinwa Idris, as the new Technical Director and Head Coach.
In his letter of appointment dated 26th May 2021, signed by the Club Secretary and sighted by the Media Officer of the Local Football Council read that “The management of Ikere United FC believes in your capacity to build the club to enviable heights. We want to win trophies and we hope that you justify the confidence reposed on you”.
Coach Bola Idris is a Senior Assistant Coach at the Ekiti State Sports Council and the technical director of Ekiti Cadets team. He has several football coaching certifications, among which are: CAF license, NIS advance certificate, Coever NFF diploma. He was the Chief Coach at the 2010 African invitational tournament Nigeria representative in Sierra Leone.
This year’s competition which is named after the title sponsor, Rt. Hon. Femi Bamisilé (BAFEM) is expected to start later in June 2021.
