I can’t bring myself low with a response – Amaechi replies Wike

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, says he cannot bring himself low to respond to Governor Nyesom Wike’s recent allegation.

Governor Wike had recently said the infrastructural development executed by Amaechi’s ministry has political undertone.

Wike accused the federal government of protecting Amaechi from being prosecuted for purportedly misappropriating funds from the sales of some of the state’s assets.

The governor alleged that Amaechi sold a property of Rivers for $308 million but only accounted for $208,000 from the sales of the state-owned power plant when he was Rivers Governor.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said there is nothing wrong with calls for the restructuring of the country, but insists getting rid of hunger and poverty is more critical to the federal government.

However, when asked on Arise Television programme on Thursday to respond to Wike’s allegations, Amaechi said: “I don’t think I want to address the issue of the governor. I have made my point, I have moved on.

“Wike was my staff, I cannot bring myself low. I was a governor. I was also a Speaker, I’m a Minister. I was a two-term chairman of governors’ forum. The same when I was a Speaker. Why should I be discussing about him?”

Amaechi was Rivers State Governor between 2007 and 2015 and Wike served as Amaechi’s Chief of Staff before he got appointed as Minister of State for education.

The duo since 2015 have been at different camps and ‘firing’ at each other.
