The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said it has not initiated any proceedings, neither is it investigating former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Abubakar Malami (SAN), stated this while appearing on a live interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today’ programme, monitored by Globalgistng on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
Malami, in his response to a reporter’s questions about whether the agency is investigating the National leader of the All Progressives Congress or not, said that he does not know whether the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) or Code of Conduct Bureau(CCB) is investigating, as these two agencies have the legal authority to launch investigations and prosecute people.
He said “ ” The AGF office, as you correctly know, has not made any decision, has not filed or brought any claims in any court on the land relating to Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But then, in the context of the law, as you correctly know, the EFCC and the Code of Conduct are statutory bodies with statutory powers to act in the context of the law establishing them. Therefore, I am not in a position to give you an exact answer.
“The AGF Office and its division, which is the Director of Public Prosecutions, have not initiated any proceedings, and no investigation has been initiated by any government agency, be it the EFCC or the Code of Conduct Bureau,” the AGF added.
In November last year (2020), it was reported that the EFCC wrote a letter to the CCB requesting copies of the Tinubu asset declaration form
