2023: PRP Better Alternative To APC, PDP — Prof Jega

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the People’s Redemption Party (PDP) has launched a campaign to bring together critical stakeholders to form a formidable party that will serve as the best alternative to the country’s two dominant political parties.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are the two leading parties in the country.

National leader of the party, Professor Attahiru Jega, who disclosed this on Monday, during a stakeholders’ interactive session of the party in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, said the campaign was aimed at bringing all on board as against the politics of godfatherism practised in other political parties.

Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said godfatherism had taken a heavy toll on the politics of the country.

He said with the new trend in his party and at the pace at which mobilisation was going on across the country, he was optimistic that PRP would provide a better alternative to Nigerians.

Our future is at stake, warns former INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega

On his 2023 ambition, Jega said it was too early to speak on individual ambition, arguing that if political ambition was allowed to take centre stage, the ideals of the party upon which they were working could be eroded.

“We are re-engineering the party by bringing all stakeholders on board, hence the organisation of this interactive session for the party’s stakeholders in Kebbi State.

“We are working toward building a virile alternative political platform ahead of 2023 against the dominant two political parties in the country,” he said.
