The umbrella body of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria has insisted that none of its members will leave the Ondo State Forest Reserves and bushes as ordered by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu which will take effect from Monday.
Bello Abdullahi Badejo, the President of Meyitti Allah Kautal Hore declared the position of the herdsmen in an interview with The Sun, he said no power can remove them from the forest because they have been there for over 250 years even before the governor was born.
He claims that all the land in Nigeria belongs to them, that they settle in think forest no matter how uninhabitable the place is, that after a while when they have sufficiently fertilized the land with their cow dung, the locals will come and start farming there, then later they will say Fulani cows are eating up their crops, meanwhile it’s the locals that are encroaching into the space of the Fulani herders.
The National president of the herdsmen said that its not the Fulani that are involved in the kidnappings and killings but criminals who adore Fulani attire and commit crimes and everybody blames it on Fulani.
He wonders what a Fulani herder living in the forest will do with 20, 10 or 5 million Naira of ransome money in the bush.
He advised the governor to carry out proper investigation to ascertain who are the criminals and not use the issue of kidnapping as excuse to drive away the Fulani from the forest. He insisted that the Fulani are not moving an inch out of the forest.
He added “Let him know this, no person in this country can push us out of the forest”
He said that they don’t need any special permission to settle in any forest in any part of Nigeria, because the forest belongs to Nigerians, and since they are Nigeria they will remain in the forest for their age long business which is cattle rearing.
He said that “Fulani cant value 100 peoples live like he can value one cow… the cow is like his brother and sister, if anything happens to the cow, do you think he can leave you?
He called on the Federal Government to ban Amotekun becauce they are casuing confusion harassing innocent herdsmen, that since the Federal Government is slow in banning Amotekun, the Fulani are also setting up their own village nationwide to cover every community where Fulani are living.
He said that they will help the police and other security agencies to fish out any kidnapper or criminal within the Fulani community.
