Nigerians have reacted to the Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi’s comment for not supporting the zoning of Nigeria’s presidency.
On Sunday night, Fayemi had declared that he doesn’t support the zoning of Nigeria’s presidency, saying there is no reason why candidates from all parts of Nigeria will not partake in the primaries when the stage is set in 2023.
The governor spoke on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme monitored by Newsflash247, saying, he understands why those who feel marginalized are clamoring for a Southeast Presidency come 2023.
Fayemi’s comment comes on the heels of various calls to have a President of Southeastern extraction.
Many from the region have over the years felt marginalized and believe that 2023 is the year for a balance to be achieved in the Nigerian political sphere.
The governor said he also understands that “in a country that is multicultural, multireligious and multiethnic, one of the equilibrating mechanisms is to ensure that those in leadership represent the mosaic that the country is”.
He, however, stressed that he strongly is of the view that excellent Nigerians come from all parts of Nigeria, adding that there is no place where qualified and purpose-driven leaders cannot be found.
Fayemi who was in charge of the APC primaries in 2014, said there is no reason why candidates from all parts of Nigeria will not partake in the primaries when the stage is set in 2023.
Question: What’s your view about Zoning in 2023?
FAYEMI: I don’t believe in Zoning
Question: But your colleagues like Fashola, Amaechi and Elrufai advocate for Zoning in 2023 saying it was part of APC arrangement in 2014?
FAYEMI: Well, they are my friends and I don’t want to argue with what they say.
But Nigerians youth on social media have attacked the governor over his comment for not supporting the zoning of Nigeria’s presidency.
@Kennedy Friday, “We are waiting for him. Let him fully manifest”.
@Dammy Adegoke, “Fayemi has the right to his own individual opinion and he has publicly express his opinion and this must be respected but not necessarily accepted. Remember, just as we respected Fashola’s opinion on Zoning, let us equally respect Fayemi’s opinion”.
@Arinola Aroyehun, “Fayemi is a betrayal; he couldn’t even dodge the question well and pretend. He is gunning for the vice president seat; you will completely be out of politics before 2023
@Fatoki Olusiji Ponmile, “He is entitled to his opinion, even though he will still be the governor(Oct. 15) till after the 2023 primaries and selections, there is no way he will be selected for the VP job, he doesn’t have large followership(even in ekiti), there is nothing spectacular about his governance(not among the best performing governors and Ekiti is still among the poorest state), even as the minister of mine and steel then he failed. I dont see what his selection as a VP candidate will be predicated on. Let him continue fooling himself with the hope of being El-rufai’s vp, when the time comes he will realise that without your people/region support you are nothing politically.
Imagine Fayemi setting himself against Jagaban, what political structure does he has?”
@Adebola Eyinla, It’s better for him not to argue…..he wants to work against Tinubu”
@Engr Adeniyi Omogoriola, “He will be out of power before 2023. Then we will see how useless he is. Ordinary Local Government Election, Fayemi can’t win in Ekiti. He should go and sit down, he is not a threat to Jagaban”
@Halidu Hassan, “My view is military should take over the nation because Nigeria doesn’t deserve democracy now”.
@Abbas Rabiu Calypso, “I don’t like zoning, but welcome good Candidate from any zone. Zone may cause tribalism”.
@Honourable Righteouxz G Peter, “2022 will be the end of Fayemi’s political career. Dazzol”
@Kolade Olaniyi Olufemi, “That guy is unbelievable”.
@Seidu Gbolahan Ayoola, “By their colour we shall know them”.
@Muhammadu Buhari, Am sorry to say this, but Judging from this, disunity have already started right from here”
@Alana Olusegun, “He believes in playing second fiddle!”
@Abubakar Mayos, “For me I believe it is important for power to move to the South come 2023”
@Raheem Ganiy Babatunde, “Don’t mind that ingrate and selfish individual his time will soon be over”.
@Lawal Aroke, “We should watch all the contingent factors to stabilize as we continue with our permutations. Politics no be natural science”.
@Suntai Ghandi Kamsi, “He’s fighting for VP seat by my happiness is that he’ll be out of power before 2023 haha haha. He’s not even calculating well. By 2023 he won’t go to senate under APC n he’ll be like fayose. Even APC give presidential flag bearer to North, fayemi won’t get VP ticket. He’ll end up betraying himself”.
@Aysnoopy Baba Endowed, “While others are aspiring to be president traitor wants to be VP , traitors are always the people that are suffering from low self esteem”.
@Hakeem D Omotunde, “Fayemi is betrayal, if you look at his body language, he wants something”.

@Ayodeji Ayodele, “Sorry to say that man has no value, betrayal of the highest order we are watching”.
@Danladi Dantani, “This guy is a back stabber. His end will not be well. What an ingrate. He is among the enemies within the APC. Karma is a bitch. It is only a matter of time”.
