The American leader also said that Abe did an amazing job in his post, and that relations between the countries are now “better than ever.”
In addition, White House spokesman Judd Deere said on Twitter that Trump and Abe have had a long conversation and discussed in detail over the past four years.
The US President added that despite his resignation, Shinzo Abe will continue to play a large role in the future of Japan, both politicians expressed the hope that their friendship will continue in the future.
Earlier on August 31, it was reported that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who last week announced his intention to step down, plans to call Russian President Vladimir Putin during the day to personally notify him of his decision.
Abe announced plans to leave office on 28 August. He made the decision due to his deteriorating health condition. Later it became known that the politician needed to undergo treatment for ulcerative colitis .
At the same time, Anton Morozov , a member of the State Duma International Affairs Committee, believes that Abe resigned partly because he was unable to return the Kuril Islands to Japan.
