In Syria, a Russian military adviser with the rank of Major General was killed, and two others were injured. This was announced on Tuesday, August 18, by the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation.
As specified in the military department, while the Russian convoys were returning from a humanitarian action 15 km from the city of Deir ez-Zor, an improvised explosive device was detonated on the side of the road.
“As a result of the explosion, three Russian servicemen were injured. During the evacuation and the provision of medical assistance, a Russian senior military adviser with the rank of major general died from the received severe wounds, ”the ministry quoted TASS as saying.
On June 16, it was reported that a Russian armored personnel carrier was blown up in Syria . As the Ministry of Defense noted then, the explosion was staged by militants on the M-4 highway in Syrian Idlib, none of the servicemen was injured.
The conflict in Syria has been going on since March 2011. In 2015, the Russian army, at the invitation of official Damascus, began to provide assistance in liberating the country’s territories from militants.
