For the first time, the man considered the most prominent figure in Buhari’s administration, Malam Mamman Daura, broke his silence, saying that he never imposed his decision on the President.
On Tuesday, he spoke in a brief interview with the BBC Hausa service, which is under surveillance in Kaduna.
When asked about his relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari, he said the President is his uncle.
“My father was their mother’s first child. Buhari is the last born, ” he said.
When reminded that people said that he and Buhari grew up together and have always been together, he said ” yes….. it is true.”.
Asked if he had met with Buhari and advised him on issues, he replied::
“Yes, I visit him to greet him. I give him advice, but if he asks…I give him advice.
But I don’t go there alone and I don’t insist that I have to do this or that.”
Commenting on the loud calls for a change of government, he said that it is high time for the country to unite and go after the most competent.
- It’s in turn, it’s been done once, it’s been done twice, it’s been done three times…
It’s better for this country to be one…it this should be for the most competent, not for those who come from somewhere” ” he said.
