Trump admits to buying 90% of the world’s supply of a coronavirus drug

The US bought 90% of the world’s reserves of the drug “Remdesivir”, used in the treatment of COVID-19. This was stated by US President Donald Trump at a briefing at the White house on July 24.

“My administration has secured control over 90% of the world’s supply of the drug “Remdesivir”, which has a great effect, ” Trump said.

At the end of June, the British edition of The Guardian reported that the United States bought about 90% of the three-month supply of “Remdesivir”. It was noted that the first 140 thousand doses of the drug were sold around the world, and then the American authorities purchased 500 thousand doses.

Remdesivir was developed to fight Ebola and has been shown to be effective in treating SARS and MERS SARS infections.

Patients with COVID-19 need a five-day course using six vials of the drug at a total cost of $2,340.

In connection with the purchase of this drug by the American side, Russia declared its readiness to help other States and supply the drug for the treatment of Coronavirus infection “Avifavir”. The Russian drug is much cheaper, has a convenient form of release in the form of tablets, and has also shown effectiveness in the treatment of COVID-19.
