Putin and Trump had a phone conversation

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump had a telephone conversation. This was reported on Thursday, July 23, on the Kremlin’s website.
“The issues of strategic stability and arms control were considered in detail, taking into account the special responsibility of Russia and the United States for maintaining international peace and security.
In this context, the relevance of bilateral consultations on these issues, including the topic of the Treaty on the reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms, was confirmed, ” the message reads.
In addition, during the conversation, the importance of the Russian initiative to hold a summit of the permanent members of the UN Security Council was noted.
Putin and trump also touched on the situation around the Iranian nuclear program, noting the need for common efforts to maintain stability in the region.

Another topic of conversation was the development of Russian-American trade and economic cooperation.
According to the Kremlin, the conversation also gave a positive assessment of cooperation in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus infection.
In addition, the presidents exchanged congratulations on the 45th anniversary of the orbital flight under the joint Soyuz–Apollo program.
“It was agreed to continue contacts at various levels. The conversation was constructive and informative,” the Kremlin concluded.
The White house noted that during the conversation, Trump told Putin that he hopes to avoid an arms race between the US, Russia and China.

On July 15, Trump announced his desire to hold a meeting with Putin before the American presidential election, which will be held in November 2020.
The last time Putin and Trump spoke in person was more than a year ago.
This happened at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan. The talks between the leaders of the Russian Federation and the United States lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes.
