Oluwatoyin Ojaomo, a lawyer for EFCC acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu, revealed the reasons why his client is being vetted by the presidential panel.
Ojaomo, speaking on the channel’s Politics Today television program on Monday, July 6, said that one of the reasons his client is under investigation is because he has publicly announced his recovery.
The lawyer added that Magu was also questioned because the recovered funds transferred to the government were more than the money claimed.
Ojaomo, however, pointed out that powerful corrupt people are using the media to tarnish the image of Magu.
He said the forces behind corruption in Nigeria are more powerful than COVID-19.
Ojaomo said that instead of famous for his contribution to the fight against corruption, the corrupt forces are trying to overthrow the magician.
In other news, EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu on Wednesday, July 1, said that Treasury looters in Nigeria are stuck and cannot access looted public funds due to the intensified anti-graft fight unleashed by the Commission.
Magu made this comment while hosting the National Association of Employers of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists of Nigeria (NABCEAN).
The EFCC boss said looters of public funds were stranded and unable to access looted funds as a result of restrictions placed on accounts containing such funds.
He said the gap between rich and poor had narrowed as a result of the war on corruption.
His word: “they’re stuck. They have a lot of money, but they don’t know what to do with it. We will stop them. I’ll shave them dry. “We have no problem with looters, because we know we will find them.
He went on to say that corruption is fiercely resisted, but added that no amount of blackmail will lessen his zeal in fighting corruption.
He called on the group to mobilise to take responsibility for the anti-graft campaign.
