US President Donald Trump has promised to continue “the fight against socialism.” This is stated in a statement issued by the White House on July 5, the American leader, timed to coincide with the Independence Day of Venezuela.
“The people of Venezuela are suffering under an illegitimate and tyrannical regime that is determined to destroy democratic institutions, violate human rights, engage in open corruption, and exploit the worst economic and humanitarian crisis in recent history. But the US has high hopes for the people of Venezuela, ” the statement said.
Trump said he hopes the Venezuelan people will gain “true independence.”
The day before, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela issued a statement dedicated to the Independence Day of the United States, in which it wished Washington to abandon its commitment to colonialism.
Earlier, on June 18, it became known that trump had a positive attitude to the idea of a military invasion of Venezuela some time ago. This was told by the former assistant to the American leader for national security, John Bolton.
In early May, Venezuelan Interior Minister Nestor Reverol announced that the authorities had prevented a naval incursion by Colombian militants near the city of La Guaira in the North of the country in order to carry out a coup and kill President Nicolas Maduro.
As a result of the repulse, eight attackers were killed, and two other US citizens, Luke Alexander Denman and Iran berry-were detained. However, it later became known that law enforcement authorities in Venezuela in total detained 66 people in this case.
Maduro announced the end of the dialogue with the United States after the attempted invasion. Trump and Secretary of state Mike Pompeo denied Washington’s involvement in the failed mercenary operation.
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russian intelligence services are ready to help in the investigation of the invasion.
