Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere Chieftain and Nigeria Elder Statesman, has in a recent interview published by Daily Times, said when everyone in the country is regretting voting for Buhari, it shows the government is not only a failure, but there’s also no evidence the country has a leader.
The Elder Statesman made the statement in response to a question on whether or not the country can have a credible election like that of 1993.
He said, “No, not even under this administration, those who voted for Buhari are regretting; yesterday a plumber came to meet me and said Baba forgive me for voting Buhari, I did not know things would be like this. I told him to pray to God so he can get rid of Buhari it is clear we don’t have a leader.”
A staunch supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Mohammed, has also recently expressed regrets for voting the president since 2003.
He said, “I have been a diehard supporter of Muhammad Buhari ever since he started contesting election.
I have never seen him face to face. I only see him on TV and his posters, not to talk of shaking hands with him. I have never tried to see him and i am not worried.
“I have always been voting for him and defending my vote until counted and recorded, not because i want anything from him. I do what i did because i see him as an honest person who can lead us to where we want to be.
“But now, i am beginning to agree with you that i have been foolish all along.
Five years into his administration, the problems of Bokoharam have subsided and also resurfaced. The insecurity related to bandits, kidnappers, cultists, rapists, communal clashes, etc have escalated.
“Unless he wakes up to do something urgently towards controlling the devastating insecurity in the country, my frustrations and regrets will continue raising my BP.”
Elder statesman and Chairman of the Northern Elders’ Forum, Prof Ango Abdullahi, has also said in a recent interview with PUNCH, that Nigerians were warned against re-electing president Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, but refused to listen.
