The judge considering the club’s claim for the player’s signature bonus ordered Neymar to return a whopping 6.7 million euros to his former club Barcelona.
The case between Neymar and Barcelona centers on a disagreement related to a 40 million Euro bonus that the PSG star was supposed to receive after extending his contract.
Interestingly, the Brazilian, who signed a new contract with Barcelona in 2017, left for Paris after the French team met his condition for a 222 million Euro buyout in the same year.
At last count, Neymar received a bonus of 14 million euros upfront, while Barcelona refused to pay the remaining 26 million euros when he decided to leave the Nou camp.
Neymar insisted that he should be paid the full amount along with 10% interest. And on March 21, 2019, which was accepted as the next court date, Neymar’s lawyers refused to provide the player’s contract with PSG in their documentation.
However, the decision of Barcelona made in the case on June 19, 2020 confirmed that the judge ordered the player to return the money. In a statement released by the club, Barcelona say they are happy with the court’s decision.
The club said in a statement: “FC Barcelona expresses its satisfaction with the verdict announced today by the 15 social court in Barcelona in connection with a lawsuit involving FC Barcelona and player Neymar Jr. regarding the amount of the signing bonus at the final extension of the player’s contract.
“The decision completely rejected the player’s claim for payment of 43.6 million euros and accepted most of the protection provided by FC Barcelona, resulting in the player having to return 6.7 million euros to the club.
“Since the player’s representative has the right to appeal this decision, the club must continue to fervently defend its legitimate interests.
“Meanwhile, It was previously reported that Neymar recently returned to France and had fun with teammates and friends on the beach of Saint-Tropez in Paris.
The Brazilian striker spent almost three months in Rio de Janeiro and flew back to Paris with a couple of friends at his base. Next to the 28-year-old Italian was midfielder Marco Veratti, who was accompanied by his partner Jessica Aidi.
