After the” five ” BMW, its varieties were also updated, which are offered by the private German firm Alpina. The two companies have been cooperating for a long time and closely, so work on the factory and Alpine modifications of the “five” went on in parallel, and the latter saw the light with minimal delay.
Following the donor cars, the BMW Alpina B5 and BMW Alpina D5 S models gained new lighting technology and a larger radiator grille. But if before Alpina used standard bumpers for its cars, supplemented with overlays, the updated cars have more aggressive M-bumpers. Original 20-inch wheels are included as standard.
BMW Alpina B5 petrol sedans and station wagons still use a modified V8 4.4 engine with a pair of dual-flow turbochargers. Power is increased from 608 to 621 HP, although the torque is the same-800 Nm at 2000 rpm. The eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive transmission are slightly reconfigured. As a result, the sedan can accelerate to 100 km / h in 3.4 s against 3.5 s for the pre-reform model, although the universal indicator is the same (3.6 s). The maximum speed is 330 and 322 km / h, respectively.
The BMW Alpina D5 s diesel models also retained the previous six-cylinder 3.0 diesel with three turbochargers. Power increased from 388 to 408 HP at constant torque (800 Nm at 1750 rpm). But if before this Alpina did not differ much in characteristics from the factory model BMW M550d, now there is no competition: BMW abandoned the four-turbo diesel, and now the most powerful version is the 540d (340 HP). The dynamic characteristics of the Alpina have not changed since the update: a sedan with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive changes the “hundred” for 4.4 s, a station wagon-4.6 s, and a maximum speed of 286 and 283 km / h, respectively.
Both petrol and diesel Alpines have electronically controlled Bilstein shock absorbers, and station wagons also have a rear air suspension. Active stabilizers are now also included in the basic configuration, but the steering mechanism of the rear wheels is no longer offered. But the self-locking rear differential can now be ordered not only for gasoline, but also for diesel cars, and in addition, carbon-ceramic brakes are offered for the first time for a surcharge.
Along with the basic “five” Alpina switched to new hand-drawn devices, changing only the fonts on the scales and the color scheme. The choice between the branded gear shift buttons on the back of the steering wheel and the more familiar petals has been preserved. As always, you can order a complete interior re-trim with soft Lavalina leather.
The updated “fives” are already available for ordering. BMW Alpina D5 S in Germany costs from 92500 euros, and BMW Alpina B5 – from 117700 euros. Unfortunately, Alpina is not officially represented on the Russian market.
