Volunteers for clinical trials of the COVID-19 vaccine have already been recruited and trained. Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said this at a meeting with medical volunteers in Ufa.
“The right number of volunteers has already been recruited for the clinic (clinical trials-approx. “RG”), they are prepared,” he said.
According to the head of the Ministry of health, clinical trials of the vaccine are planned to begin in two weeks.
Mikhail Murashko expressed hope that in August-September 2020, the first samples of the COVID-19 vaccine will be available for health workers.
“I hope that for medical professionals, I think that in August-September, probably, the first samples will be available. We will also look at the wider practice, how it will show itself, and then we will work together with you in the system of pharmacovigilance and surveillance, ” the Minister said.
In particular, the state scientific center of Virology and biotechnology “vector” of Rospotrebnadzor plans to conduct clinical studies of developed vaccines on volunteers from 18 to 60 years old. At the first stage, 10 volunteers from 18 to 30 years old will be vaccinated. Seven days after the first vaccine is administered, the remaining people will be vaccinated in the absence of adverse reactions.
Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said that in total, 47 coronavirus vaccines are being developed in Russia on 14 platforms, of which 8 prototypes of vaccines that are at different stages of research were offered to the World Health Organization (WHO).
