These two-doors are included in the Mercedes E-class range, but according to the factory classification they are allocated to a separate family with the indices C238 (coupe) and A238 (convertible). They underwent a planned upgrade three months after the sedan and station wagon, but the volume of changes is more modest. For example, the intervention in the design of the stern was cosmetic: lights with sections on the trunk lid, which transformed the appearance of the sedan, the two-doors were before.
The design of the front part of all Mercedes E-class is the same — with changed headlights, the blocks of which have almost lost the visual division into two parts in the style of previous generations of the model. Also redesigned bumpers, changed the set of wheels (there are options with an “aerodynamic” design), and the versions with the AMG package “inverted” radiator grille.
The interior is updated in the same way as the sedan and station wagon. The new steering wheel – with double side spokes, and also-with a capacitive sensor that makes sure that the driver keeps his hands on the steering wheel while the adaptive cruise control (previously, this was tracked by micro-forces on the steering wheel). As an option, wide displays of the virtual dashboard and media system with a diagonal of 12.3 inches each are offered, while the standard screens are the same-10.25 inches. The new multimedia system itself is the MBUX system with advanced voice control, which previously appeared on almost all models of the brand.
The main novelty in the engine range is the m256 inline six-cylinder turbo engine. On modifications of the Mercedes E-class 450, it produces the same 367 HP and 500 Nm as the previous V6, but differs in better economy. And in addition with it the cars became a little faster: in the coupe, the acceleration time to “hundreds” decreased from 5.1 to 5.0 s.the e 200 (197 HP) and E 300 (258 HP) Versions have still retained the former two-liter turbocharger. At the top of the scale, as before, the coupe and convertible Mercedes-AMG E 53 with a three-liter six-cylinder engine (435 HP): more powerful units two-door is not allowed.
In the diesel range, a seriously modernized FOUR-cylinder om654m unit appeared in the e 300 d modification. The increased stroke of the piston allowed to increase the working volume from 1950 to 1993 cubic meters, the injection pressure was raised from 2500 to 2700 bar, and as a result, the power increased from 245 to 265 HP. This made it possible to abandon the six-cylinder version of the E 350 d (286 HP), so that the company “three hundred” coupes and convertibles are now only options E 220 d (2.0 l, 194 HP) and E 400 d (2.9 l, 340 HP).
And almost all engines on the European market now have a 48-volt hybrid EQ-Boost system. And now it is not a surplus to the engine: the starter-generator is integrated into a nine-stage “automatic”, reducing the number of additional wires and communications. This engine produces 14 HP and 150 Nm for petrol turbochargers, 22 HP and 250 Nm for petrol six — cylinder engines, and 20 HP and 180 Nm for the upgraded OM654M diesel. It helps in the first seconds of acceleration and works within the start-stop system.
Updated e-class coupes and convertibles will be available in the fall. Including on the Russian market: now a coupe costs from 3.8 million rubles, and a convertible — at least 5.1 million rubles. They will not produce two-door cars at the Daimler plant near Moscow, where e-class sedans are made, of course.
