Turkey is negotiating tourism with many countries, including Russia, foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Saturday, May 23, on Dim TV.
The Minister said that he held four-party talks on tourism with colleagues from Germany, France and the UK. Cavusoglu also noted that he had twice spoken with Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“We know that Russian tourists want to come to our country,” he said.
According to the Turkish foreign Minister, “tourism is important not only for Antalya and Alanya, it is important for the whole of Turkey” and he will continue to help the Minister of culture and tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. “We will pass this year with little damage,” Cavusoglu said.
Turkey expects to start the domestic tour season at the end of May, and the authorities are working on a special hotel certification program to accommodate foreign guests.
On May 21, Turkish Minister of culture and tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said that the Turkish authorities hope that air traffic with Russia will resume from mid-July.
From 23 to 26 May, during the celebration of the end of Ramadan, curfew is again imposed in all provinces of Turkey due to the situation with coronavirus. In addition, the travel restriction for 15 provinces is extended for 15 days. Older citizens will be able to go outside from May 24, but only between 14: 00 and 20: 00. The new school year is scheduled to start in September.
The new type of coronavirus was first detected in Turkey on March 10 in a local resident who returned from Europe. The total number of confirmed cases in the country according to the latest data exceeded 155 thousand, 4,308 people died, and 117,602 recovered.
