The Ministry of Health has associated an increase in the number of patients with COVID-19 with an increase in testing
The overall increase in people in Russia who were diagnosed with a coronavirus infection did not affect the average number of patients with severe symptoms of COVID-19, although they are more significant for the country’s health. This was reported on Wednesday, May 6, by Elena Malinnikova, chief freelance infectious disease specialist of the Ministry of health.
According to her, the daily growth in Russia as a whole is 7.9%. Index cases with symptoms of acute respiratory infection and pneumonia stable at 51% of mild cases, 38%, moderate 11%, “severe”, quotes its words a press-service of the Ministry of health.
Malinnikova added that the increase in the number of patients with this infection is also associated with an increase in tests conducted in the country to detect the virus. She explained that if we do not conduct tests, we will only see and have clear cases of moderate and high-severity diseases. Light and asymptomatic, according to her, will not be included in the statistics at all and will worsen the spread of infection.
“Russia has become more active in using diagnostics throughout the country, and not only in the Moscow region and St. Petersburg,” the press service of the Ministry of health quotes her as saying.
The infectious disease specialist called on people to be more responsible and observe a self-isolation regime to stop the spread of the virus as soon as possible.
“It is important to understand that if we wait a little longer, we will be able to interrupt the active circulation of the virus in our country, SARS-CoV-2 will lose its virulence, that is, its toxicity and its infectivity will fall. Only then can the incidence be reduced, ” she said. According to her, then it will be possible to get out of self-isolation faster and with less losses and return to normal life.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian Academy of Sciences said that the coronavirus epidemic is developing in Russia according to a separate, third, scenario, which differs from the development of the disease in Italy and China. It is connected with the fact that our country has a large territory, different population density, customs and the level of medicine.
