The social network Instagram has restricted viewing of publications under the hashtag #sea.
Now to view a photo with this hashtag you have to read the following warning:
“We have hidden posts with the hashtag #sea to protect the community from content that encourages behavior that could lead to harm or even death.”
On may 4, Russian TV presenter and journalist Irena Ponaroshku drew attention to this. Under her post, users of the social network suggested that the ban may be related to the game “blue whale”, where the word sea was used as a call to commit suicide.
The developers did not provide any comments explaining the restriction. Meanwhile, the ban applies only to the Russian-language version of the hashtag, and posts marked #sea are displayed without changes.
On April 29, the social network Instagram was registered a failure. Residents of the US, UK and Malaysia complained about the problems. In Russia, the failure was reported by residents of Voronezh.
