The world could face a new waves of the spread of coronavirus infection. This forecast was shared on Tuesday, May 5, at a press conference by the head of the Berlin Institute of Virology named after Robert Koch, Lothar Wheeler.
“I assume-and this is confirmed by experts – that there will be a second and third waves of infection.”
He noted that the German health system is ready for potential outbreaks of infection.
“We have done a lot for this. Doctors now know how to deal with patients. We will have the best therapeutic means, ” Wheeler assured.
In particular, he added that the German authorities plan to increase the number of tests for coronavirus. According to him, more than 130 laboratories in the country can do more than 140 thousand studies every day.
At the end of April, the representative of the World Health Organization in Russia, Melita Vujinovich, said that the second wave of coronavirus in the world was inevitable. The reason for this forecast lies in the presence of immunity to the virus in a small segment of the population.
On April 19, RAS academician Sergey Nedospasov clarified that the second wave of coronavirus spread is possible if a vaccine is not developed.
