The Russian Ministry of industry and trade expects to produce a coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2020. This was stated by the head of the Ministry Denis Manturov on the RT TV channel on Friday, April 24.
“We expect to start pre-clinical and clinical studies in June, so that by the end of the year we will try in every possible way to make it faster, to issue a ready — made recombinant vaccine for use by people,” RIA Novosti quoted Manturov as saying.
He noted that at the moment, the coronavirus vaccine is being developed by Russian pharmaceutical companies together with the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of health and the Federal medical and biological Agency.
Earlier in the day, Vladimir Chulanov, Deputy Director of the NMIC of phthisiopulmanology and infectious diseases of the Ministry of health of Russia, suggested that the vaccine is really likely to appear by the end of 2020. The scientist has not yet decided to predict whether the coronavirus infection will only be a seasonal phenomenon or will require regular vaccination of the population.
However, on April 20, Natalia Dumchenko, a researcher at the Vector State research center, said that clinical trials of the coronavirus vaccine are scheduled to begin in June 2020.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of health to speed up the development of a coronavirus vaccine. He assured that if necessary, the authorities will provide support and allocate additional resources for its development.
