Analysts of the Association of European business (AEB) summed up the results of sales in the Russian automobile market in March.
So, according to a report published on April 8, for the third month of 2020, sales of new cars in the country increased by 4% compared to March last year: Russians purchased 162,321 cars.
In total, in the 1st quarter of 2020, sales of new cars in Russia increased by 1.8% compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to 398,518 units.
“This strong start to the year, unfortunately, does not reflect the real trend, but rather is due to the expected artificially caused increase in March sales due to the weakening of the currency. At the end of March, car sales and dealer operations were abruptly interrupted due to measures related to the coronavirus situation. AEB has applied to the Government with a proposal of measures of state support for the automotive industry, ” said Jorg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Committee of automobile manufacturers.
According to the forecast of AEB experts, sales of new passenger and light commercial vehicles in 2020 will amount to 1.72 million units. At the same time, sales will decrease by 2.1%.
On February 21, it was reported that there were 52.9 million cars in Russia as of January 1, 2020.
