Russia’s Central election Commission has cancel all elections schedule for the future

The Central election Commission (CEC) postponed 94 regional election campaigns in April to June due to coronavirus. This was stated at a meeting on Friday, April 3, the CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova.
“Taking into account the current situation in the country and in order to ensure the health and safety of citizens, we believe it is necessary to postpone all elections and referendums that were scheduled or planned in the coming months until the epidemiological situation in the country improves,” she said.
According to Pamfilova, 94 campaigns will be postponed from April 5 to July 21. The speech of the CEC head was broadcast on the Commission’s website.
The resumption of activities for the preparation and conduct of elections and referendums will be carried out by the decision of the Commission organizing the elections, after notification to the CEC of Russia.
On March 29, the authorities of Moscow and the Moscow region introduced a mandatory home self-isolation regime for all residents. Subsequently, such restrictive measures were introduced in other Russian regions.
The day before, the period of non-working days in Russia was extended until the end of April by the decision of President Vladimir Putin. This measure is necessary in order to reduce the rate of spread of coronavirus infection.
